A journey of transformation and integration
In 2015, Mount Sinai Hospital, Bridgepoint Active Health Care and Circle of Care in Toronto, Canada announced the creation of Sinai Health System. Health care transformation is a journey that takes time to realise better patient outcomes. Initially an abstract concept, in the early days of integration, staff were having difficulty articulating “why Sinai Health System”, and leaders were feeling challenge to demonstrate how, through Sinai Health System, the founding organisations were greater than the sum of their parts.
The transformation journey had to begin with staff. The launch of the Sinai Health visual identity, vision, mission and values presented the opportunity to show the future of health care and establish a new narrative. An internal engagement strategy was implemented January – March 2016, before a public unveiling with the annual report, web sites and social media in June 2016. A series of multipronged tactics were developed connect with a complex staff matrix that included over 7,000 full/part-time and physician staff across multiple sites, the Foundations and Research Institutes. Key tactics included:
- Launch events and open houses
- Leader tool kits
- Branded collateral material, infographics and patient profiles
- Brand training
- Sinai Health annual report
- Web site rebranding
In addition to creating knowledge and understanding, due to the strong positive response, many of the tools deployed have since become the new gold standard for Sinai Health transformation projects.
